Russell Capps

Russell began his ballet training with Eric Hyrst of London’s Royal Ballet in his hometown of Longview, Washington and he danced with the Jefferson Dancers & Oregon Festival Ballet. His professional career began with Eugene Ballet Company and continued with Ballet Oregon, Los Angeles Classical Ballet, Nevada Dance theatre and Oregon Ballet Theatre. He has performed many principle roles including roles in “The Nutcracker”, “Coppelia “, and “Swan Lake” to name just a few.

His choreographic credits include “The Nutcracker”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Cinderella”, “One Second”, Eye to Eye”, “The Velveteen Rabbit” and "Tijustme”. He has also choreographed for the Jefferson Dancers and Dance West of Beaverton Arts and Communication School. Recently he and Maricar collaborated with Bravo Vancouver to choreograph a commissioned work called, ”St. Paul-An Oratorio” by Felix Mendelssohn, and excerpts from George Gershwin's An "American In Paris". The works included live chorus and orchestra, and were broadcast on local public television.

Currently Russell is Co-Director for Washington State Ballet and Associate Director for the Academy of Washington State Ballet.
